DIVERSITY

This presentation showcases my research and exploration of the concept, ‘DIVERSITY’. I wanted to explore the nature of diversity in design and how graphics today can bring societies together. Universal design needs diversity to work - meaning that without different perspectives and applications, good design might cease to exist. The following brief explores the vast nature of diversity and applies it to an exhibition branding guide with careful consideration regarding the colour theory, typography, and continuity. In terms of colour theory, I went with brown shades as brown evokes the emotion of warmth, reliability and earthiness. Furthermore, in order to contrast it I chose a white shade as well to create a more clean, trustworthy look. After extensive ideation and iteration, I came up with a typeface which best reflected the way I wanted to further explore the theme and portrayed the connection between communities within society in an abstract way. I made sure to make my design continuous as it would act as a signifier for the viewer regarding the flow and structure of my outcome. I did this by creating a paper flow effect - mainly seen in the exhibition guide and the double page spread. Overall, I wanted my branding to invite the viewer in and make them feel trusted and welcomed so that due to their calm state they would be able to understand a deeper meaning within my work - that designers from different backgrounds come together to create universally acceptable products.
